Resumen: This Article analyses the reaction of the Chilean press and public opinion towards the Chilean-Bolivian conversations of 1950, in which a possible solution for the Bolivian aspiration for a sea outlet was explored. We postulate that this reaction was one of the principal factors in the failure of the conversations, as the growing backlash against it rested any legitimacy for a possible territorial cession, and provoked similar reactions in the Bolivian and Peruvian public opinion.
