Resumen: Virtual education is a phenomenon that has grown in recent times, therefore, monitoring its management is essential. The objective of this study is to offer a review of the specialized literature on the contributions that have been made in the field of virtual education management (VEM). The methodological approach was based on a review of the Wos, Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc, and Latindex databases. As a result of the review, a total of 33 papers addressing the subject were identified. The criteria used were the profile of the authors and collaborations, the theoretical scope, the virtual education management conception, the processes associated with management, the topics associated with collaborations, and the journals where the existing product is being disseminated. The results reveal a scarcity of theoretical studies that discuss the management of virtual education, thus opening the possibility to develop a research niche that, more than a new trend, constitutes a need to adapt to current demands.
